Hannah Charleston, senior account manager, Synergy Vision has fought off tough competition to secure the title Aspiring Communications Manager at the PharmaTimes 2018 Awards. She beat two other finalists, including colleague Kate Herring, in a time-pressured, on-the-day fictional communications challenge. A senior Synergy Vision team also secured a finalist place in the Communications Team of the Year – International Challenge category, in a similar on-the-day fictional brief/pitch scenario.

Uniquely in the industry, the PharmaTimes competition requires candidates to demonstrate their competencies and skills by meeting a challenge set on the day. Judges are senior level, experienced pharma marketing and communications professionals. Assessment criteria for Aspiring Communications Manager included digesting and responding to a brief, assessing the market environment, prioritising and identifying key insights, and developing workable communications strategies, with a good blend of creativity, risk-taking and respect for compliance.

Aspiring Communications Manager Hannah joined Synergy Vision in 2014 on the first ever graduate training scheme, after graduating in Neuroscience and following a rigorous selection process. The graduate training scheme sees candidates enjoying structured training across a range of core communications competencies and soft skills, as well as ongoing professional development. The agency is currently enrolling candidates on its third scheme.

Since joining, Hannah has progressed to senior account manager, responsible for projects including congress activities, educational programmes and materials, including a variety of digital projects.

Eileen Gallagher, managing director, Synergy Vision comments: “We are over the moon that Hannah has secured this accolade, which is a real measure of skills and abilities against the best in the industry.

“As a company we strive to nurture and develop individuals to fulfil their potential as well as a positive work-life balance, which we believe promotes excellence.

“As winner and finalist, Hannah and Kate truly evidence our ethos and the value of this approach, which means we can ultimately deliver the difference for clients.”

Charleston comments: “I found the challenge on the day invigorating and I learned so much from the experience too. Obviously, I’m very excited that I won against such tough competition and I’ll look forward now to chatting with judges to get feedback on how I can improve even more!”

About Synergy Vision

Synergy Vision was founded in 2007 by former nurse and pharmaceutical clinical development specialist Ffyona Dawber. She had identified a gap for a full-service medical communications agency that understands first-hand the challenges faced by pharmaceutical clients. As a result, many of the now 40-strong team are hand-picked for their industry experience, a significant track record in agencies, or academic expertise. Synergy Vision has also run a graduate training scheme since 2014, identifying new talent and providing structured development opportunities.

Now in its 11th year, Synergy Vision’s global footprint has expanded, with offices in London, Dublin and Sydney. The agency prides itself on being the partner that clients can trust – striving to build lasting relationships by exceeding expectations, maintaining high levels of professionalism, and being honest and transparent every step of the way.

A raft of accolades going back to 2010 reflect the agency’s commitment to embedding a positive culture across all levels of the company, and unwavering focus on nurturing the team – exemplified by the launch of the four-day week pilot from December 2018 – and exceeding client expectations. Synergy Vision first secured the core Investors in People (IIP) accreditation in 2011 and achieved gold status in 2017.

Additionally, in 2018, Synergy Vision was ranked 11th among hundreds of businesses entering the UK’s Best Workplaces: Small category (20–50 employees); secured a Gold Award for Skills Development at the International CSR Excellence Awards; and was a finalist in both the Medical Education Consultancy of the Year and Small Consultancy of the Year categories at the 21st Communiqué Awards. In 2017, Synergy Vision won the 14th Annual International Business Awards Gold Stevie® Award in the Customer Service Department of the Year – Advertising, Marketing, Public Relations & Business Services category. Previous recognition has also come from The Women of the Future Awards, the RX Club, PharmaTimes, C&IT Awards and Best Business Awards.
